Odoo 19 is not just a numbering bump. If you're on 17, here are the differences that actually change how you use the platform.
1. The new "/odoo" URL scheme
Menus, actions, and views now use human-readable URLs under /odoo instead of the old hash-fragment routing. That means links you paste in Slack survive being shared. It also means bookmarks work.
2. The web builder rewrite
The website builder in 19 is faster and more direct — snippet manipulation feels closer to a modern design tool. Custom snippet development got a cleaner API.
3. Accounting: reconciliation UX
Bank reconciliation in 19 batches rules more intelligently. If you were on 17 and reconciliation was a bottleneck, this alone is worth the upgrade.
4. Manufacturing: MO and BOM changes
Manufacturing orders can now be split mid-execution without breaking traceability. If you make discrete products with rework loops, this is a big deal.
Should you upgrade now?
If you're on 17 with heavy customizations, plan a compatibility pass first — 19's changes to some base APIs mean modules that touched the core reconciliation or MRP flows may need updates. If you're on stock 17 (no custom modules), the upgrade is smooth and worth it.
